GlenfinnanMonument
On a trip to Scotland we visited this site in the Scottish Highlands. I liked the simplicity and stark contrast of the statue atop the stone tower silhouetted against the sky.
*For the History Buffs;
The memorial tower at Glenfinnan to commemorate the raising of the standard of the Young Pretender, Bonnie Prince Charlie, was built in 1815; the statue was not added until 1835. Glenfinnan Monument, at the head of Loch Shiel was erected to commemorate the Jacobite Rising in 1745. Since 1938, the GlenfinnanMonument has been in the care of the National Trust for Scotland. The Trust has also constructed a visitor center, which provides tickets, information and exhibitions, a shop, and café.
