Nocturne In Lavender

I like the nostalgic feel of this atmospheric painting. The moody night sky with a huge full moon, silhouettes of the gnarly branches, utility poles and a vintage automobile set the stage for a turn-of-the-century drama. The figures that populate this alternate universe are intentionally ambiguous and left with little detail. 

 

I have wondered what Victorian artist, John Atkinson Grimshaw, would be painting if he were still alive. His wonderful nocturnes have always inspired me.
