" Winter's Eve at Holy Hill "
I’m as excited as
Ralphy’s Dad in the movie “A Christmas Story” when he finds out that he
is a major prize winner! The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has chosen my
painting “Winter’s Eve at Holy Hill” to be reproduced on the front page
of their Christmas day edition along with a feature article about the
winning artist. The Milwaukee journal Sentinel is the state’s largest
newspaper with a huge circulation and is distributed widely throughout
the state.
What many of you don’t
know is that I won first place in the statewide Milwaukee Journal Art
Calendar Competition 44 years ago when I was only 16 years old. My
semi-abstract watercolor of a fall scene was chosen to be reproduced in
their holiday calendar. I just realized at that rate I will have to live
to be 104 to win again.
I’m very honored and
thankful to have been chosen unanimously by the publisher, editor, and
art editor to be the first artist selected for their New Christmas
Tradition.
My talented niece,
Wendy Konichek, is dragging me into the 21st century with a
website shropshireart.com which will soon be up
and running. Check it out and sign the guestbook. My good friend and
fellow artist, Walter Maes is about to launch a website for Riverbirch
gallery also, with information about our classes and gallery.
I’m definitely one of
the luckiest guys you’ll ever know and to reference another holiday
classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life” …it certainly is.
Merry Christmas,
Tom Shropshire
